This is by far one of the craziest things I’ve done! How amazing this is! I’m staying at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, sliding on the same ice that has hosted so many fantastic athletes.
Today we slid from Start 4 two more times, focusing more on technique. At the bottom of our second run, Don (our developmental coach, Don Hass) informed us that we would be moving up to Start 3, about 3/4 of the way up the track! I wasn’t even nervous for this start. I was pumped!! And true to my imagination, Start 3 took me faster down the track! I was hitting around 60mph, though it didn’t feel like it. I definitely felt more force pushing down on my head, and as a result, my helmet skidded on the ice a few times. On the last run, I brushed the edge of the track in the chicane with my right shoulder. It definitely stung like someone had cut me with a knife, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as some of the guys got!
I’m having a blast up here! It’s crazy, exciting, and so much fun! It’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had in a sport.
Once again, the combine was pushed back a day, so I have to wait until Thursday to get my 600 points to be funded!
